Edit your videos - Android (2024)

In Google Photos, you can edit your videos with special effects, filters, and more from your mobile device.

What you need

Download and install the Google Photos app.

  • Some video editing features like crop, straighten, and filters are only available on Android devices with at least oneGB of RAM that run on Android version 6.0 and later.

Edit your video

Trim, Mute, Stabilize, or Export a still from your video

  1. Open the video you want to edit.
  2. Tap Edit Edit your videos - Android (1).
    • To trim the video to a different length: Tap and Drag the Trim Handles to select the portion of your video you want to keep.
      1. To save a copy of the video with your edits, at the bottom, tap Save copy.
    • To mute your video: TapEdit your videos - Android (2).
    • To Stabilize your video: Tap Edit your videos - Android (3).
    • To Export a frame from your video: Tap Export frame.

Crop or rotate

  1. Open the video you want to edit.
  2. Tap Edit Edit your videos - Android (4) Edit your videos - Android (5) Crop.
    • To crop the video to a different aspect ratio, like a square: Tap Aspect ratio Edit your videos - Android (6).
    • To change the video’s perspective:
      1. Tap Transform Edit your videos - Android (7).
      2. Drag the dots to the edges of your video or tap Auto.
    • To rotate a video 90 degrees, tap Rotate Edit your videos - Android (8).
      • To make minor adjustments to straighten the video, use the dial above Rotate Edit your videos - Android (9).
    • To automatically straighten the video, tap Auto.
      • Tip: Auto straighten availability depends on the video.
  3. To save a copy of the video with your edits, at the bottom, tap Save copy.

Adjust your video

Important: To use some adjustments, you need a Pixel phone or a Google One membership. Your device must have at least 3 GB RAM and Android 8.0 and up. Learn how to sign up for Google One.

  1. Open the video you want to edit.
  2. Tap Edit Edit your videos - Android (10) Edit your videos - Android (11) Adjust.
  3. Select the type of effect you want to apply to your video and move the dial to make changes.
  4. When you’re finished, tap Done.
  5. To undo an adjustment, deselect the option or tap Cancel.

Video adjustments

  • Tap Brightness Edit your videos - Android (12) to adjust the exposure.
  • Tap Contrast Edit your videos - Android (13) to adjust the difference in tones.
  • Tap White point Edit your videos - Android (14) to adjust the brightest value.
  • Tap Highlights Edit your videos - Android (15) to adjust the detail in the brightest areas.
  • Tap Shadows Edit your videos - Android (16) to adjust the detail in the darkest areas.
  • Tap Black point Edit your videos - Android (17) to adjust the darkest value.
  • Tap Saturation Edit your videos - Android (18) to adjust the intensity of colors.
  • Tap Warmth Edit your videos - Android (19) adjust the color temperature.
  • Tap Tint Edit your videos - Android (20) to adjust the hue.
  • Tap Skin tone Edit your videos - Android (21) to adjust the saturation of the skin-colored tones.
  • Tap Blue tone Edit your videos - Android (22) to adjust the saturation of the blue tones, like sky or water.
  • Tap Vignette Edit your videos - Android (23) to reduce the brightness around the edges of the video.
  • Tap HDR effect Edit your videos - Android (24) to enhance brightness and contrast across the video.

Add a filter

In the color filters section, you can apply the usual filters, like Palma or Metro, to your video.

  1. Open the video you want to edit.
  2. Tap Edit Edit your videos - Android (25) Edit your videos - Android (26) Filters.
  3. Select a filter.
  4. To change the strength of the filter on the video, tap the filter again and move the dial.
  5. To undo a filter, select None.

Add an effect

Important: To add an effect, you need a Pixel phone or a Google One membership. Your device must have at least 3 GB RAM and Android 8.0 and up.Learn how to sign up for Google One.

  1. Open the video you want to edit.
  2. Tap EditEdit your videos - Android (27)Edit your videos - Android (28)Effects.
  3. Select an effect.
    • To undo an effect, tapNone.
  4. TapSave copy.

Tip:Types of effects include:

  • B&W Film
  • Light leak
  • Lomo
  • Dust mix
  • Chromatic
  • Fish Eye

Draw on or highlight a video

  1. Open the video you want to edit.
  2. Tap Edit Edit your videos - Android (29) Edit your videos - Android (30) Markup.
    • To draw, tap Pen Edit your videos - Android (31).
    • To add highlights, tap Highlighter Edit your videos - Android (32).
  3. When you’re finished, tap Done.
  4. To save a copy of the video with your edits, at the bottom, tap Save copy.
