What are your thoughts on Gigi??
I would never use it as a real first name. I have good associations with it and with our girl name pick now, she would have the initials G.I.
We've always loved Gwen/Gwyneth and would go with Gwyneth. We just bought a farm and our now neighbor (and will be a life long neighbor since none of us are going anywhere) is Gwen so I thought it would be odd to call her the same.
Would Gigi be acceptable for a young girl and then she'd have option later on as to what she wants to go by?

I think Gigi is fine for a young girl. I definitely wouldn't use that as a FN in any means, but I think it's an okay NN.
I do love Gwyneth/Gwen. I still think it'd be okay to call her Gwen, even though that's your neighbors name.
All of this, especially the bolded part.
Great jobonthe spelling of Gwyneth!

My DD calls her great-grandmother GG, so that's instantly the reference that comes to mind, but I think it would be fine to give that nickname to your daughter, but if you were to spell it GiGi, I would think that her name starts with G-I, as in Gianna, as other posters have mentioned.

I called my grandmother Gigi, but pronounced like ghee-ghee with a hard g like in "get". Apparently as a child I could not say "Gran".
My sister-in-law's niece has the nickname Gigi. Her older sister wanted to name the baby Gigi so they actually named her Georgia and gave her the nickname Gigi. Funny thing though. Once Georgia was about 4, she decided she did not like Gigi and will only answer to Georgia.

My name is Gianna, my maiden name was Giorgi - I quite literally was GiGi.
I HATE it. Anyone who called me that after I was 8 years old got a glare and a "my name is Gianna, I'mnot a french poodle"
