Step 1: Review & Accept Offer

Congratulations on your admission!

  • Review Offer:Please log into the application system toreview your Offer of Admissionand check whether it includes specific circ*mstances or missing documents. If you have any questions, please contact yourprogram director.
  • Accept Offer:After reviewing your Offer of Admission, you can accept your offer of admission using the “Reply to Offer” buttonthat is on your offer of admission page.
    • The "Reply to Offer" button is located on the bottom right corner of the screen.
    • You can access this link by logging into theapplication portal, if you haven't already.

Step 2: Create GWeb Account, Pay Enrollment Deposit & Claim GW Identity (Video)

How to Pay Your Deposit

For instructions on creating your GWeb account and paying your admission deposit online please follow the information posted on the Graduate Admissions website.

  • Select “CPS Admissions” in the drop-down list for “Select Deposit Payment."
  • Please wait until we acknowledge receipt of your reply and deposit payment before registering for classes.
  • Note: Registering as a non-degree student may affect your academic record.


How to Claim Your GW Identity

After accepting your offer of admission and paying your deposit, you must establish a GW email account by claiming your GW Identity.

Note that all university official communications will be sent to your GW email account. You should check this account regularly or set up automatic mail forwarding to another account that you check frequently.

Within 2 business days after you paid your deposit and have an active student record in Banner, you will be receiving a system generated email from[emailprotected]with a subject line: “Welcome to the George Washington University – Action Required” that provides instructions on how toclaim your GW Identity.

Step 3: Finalize Financial Aid/Loans (Videos)

If you are applying for federal student loans, please visit theFinancial Aid websitefor information on application, eligibility factors, deadlines and forms.

Step 4: Review Program Plan

Review your program plan and contact the student engagement team or your program director with any questions.

  • Pleasedownload yourprogram planfrom this website.
  • The program planlists required and elective courses for your academic program.
  • Thestudent engagement teamcan answer any questions you may have about the courses you need to take, or guide you if you haven't received a program plan.
Step 5: Register for Classes (Video)

The Step 5 video will show you how to register for classes.

Using the Registration System:

  • Register for classes through the GWeb Information System using your GW Email or your GWID & PIN.
  • Registration typically opens 2-3 months prior to the beginning of class. We will notify you when registration opens.
  • Through GWeb, you can search and register for classes, view grades, print unofficial transcripts, update your personal information and check your student account.

  • Before registering for classes, consult the Schedule of Classes for details on courses.
  • The Schedule of Classes provides information on what classes are offered during the upcoming semester, where they are offered, the schedule, a course description and related information you need to complete your registration.

Step 6: Settle Account - check terms
  • Once you have registered for classes, a Statement of Account will be emailed to your GW email account regarding the payment due date.
  • Details about billing and payments are available through GW's Student Services Hub.

Step 7: Submit Immunizations

Newly-admitted undergraduate, graduate, non-degree, or transfer students at the George Washington University (GW) are required to provide proof of immunization or they will incur a registration hold on their student account.

Students must first be registered for their classes in order to submit their immunization records. Allow 2-3 business days after registering for classes before submittingimmunization records.

Students arenot requiredto submit their immunization records in the following circ*mstances:

  • Students who are 26 years of age or older
  • Studentsenrolled online

Step 8: Get GW Student ID

The GWorld card is the official identification card of the George Washington University. All students are encouraged to get their GWorld Card after enrolling in the university.

It is required to:

  • Access many University buildings (ex. Libraries and some facilities);
  • Obtain many types of university services, including checking out library materials and requesting a transcript;
  • Other uses include services such as parking garages, printing and GW Bookstore purchases.

Students also use it to receive student discounts.

How to Receive Your GWorld Card:

  • In-person at the main GWorld Office located in Washington, D.C.;
  • Order online and pickup at GW's Virginia Science & Technology Campus in Ashburn, VA;
  • Distance GWorld Cards are ordered online and shipped. These are for ID purposes only for virtual students (no campus access).
Step 9: Additional Steps for International Students (Video)

Visa Request and Financial Certification

International students need to be aware that the admissions office will start processing your visa request and financial certification paperwork only after youhave been accepted and have paid your deposit.
