1. Sobre las Imágenes IOS Cisco

GNS3 ofrece múltiples formas de emular IOS. Para imágenes antiguas GNS3 usa y mantiene Dynamips; Un emulador dedicado a emular hardware de Cisco. Dynamips puede ejecutar imágenes de IOS sin modificarlas, aquí podrás podrás ejecutar la descarga de Cisco IOS.

1.1. Disponibilidad de las Imágenes

Debido a que estas plataformas alcanzan el estado de fin de venta, fin de vida y fin de soporte, las imágenes ya no están disponibles para descargar desde las secciones de soporte de Cisco. Actualmente, las imágenes del C7200 son las únicas que todavía están disponibles para descargar para aquellas personas que tienen un contrato de soporte.

1.2. Imágenes con versión IOS 15.x

Solo la serie c7200 obtiene nuevas imágenes de IOS 15. Todas las demás plataformas ahora están al final de su vida útil y solo son compatibles con IOS 12.4.

1.3. Imágenes de «Línea Principal» y «Tren»

Las imágenes tipo tren tecnológico contienen implementaciones tempranas con las características más nuevas, pero también puede contener algunos errores y bugs. Se recomienda imágenes de Linea Principal o Mainline en vez de imágenes Tren si está interesado en la estabilidad sin la necesidad de nuevas funciones. Consulte las versiones y nombres de imágenes Cisco IOS para obtener más información.

1.4. Memoria Mínima

La RAM mínima es la cantidad de memoria necesaria para que IOS funcione a la máxima capacidad con la mayoría de las funciones configuradas y activadas. Por experiencia, usualmente se puede usar un poco menos de RAM y funcionará correctamente. En la sección 4 se encuentra una serie pasos para poder consultar las características y requerimientos de cualquier imagen Cisco.

1.5. Imágenes Recomendadas

Se recomienda el uso de las imágenes IOS c3640, c3660, c3725, c3745 y c7200 que se enumeran a continuación. Han demostrado ser las más estables en GNS3, siempre que use la cantidad correcta de RAM y el valor de Idle-PC.

1.6. Valor Idle-PC

Esta configuración ayudará a Dynamips a consumir menos CPU. Es específico para cada imagen IOS, en las imágenes recomendadas y descargables lineas abajo podrás encontrar valores de Idle-PC recomendados, sin embargo, podrás calcular los propios de tu pc al momento de instalar las imágenes en el GNS3.

A continuación se muestra una lista de imágenes para descargar Cisco IOS.

2.1. Serie C1700

Los modelos 1700 tienen 1 puerto fijo FastEthernet (C1700-MB-1ETH) en su placa base, 2 sublotes para WIC (máximo de 2 puertos Ethernet o 4 puertos serie) y no tienen ranuras para módulos de red. Tenga en cuenta que las interfaces no utilizan una designación de ranura (por ejemplo, «f0»)

Si seleccionas el enlace anterior este te diseccionará a la página de Cisco donde se puede consultar la versión de imagen IOS y así poder revisar las características y requerimientos de cada IOS (Ver Figuras 1)

Para esto, elige búsqueda por “Release” y coloca los datos del IOS Cisco, en “Image Details” aparecerá los datos de la imagen y la cantidad de DRAM mínima. En la imagen se colocó como ejemplo los datos de la imagen IOS “c7200-adventerprisek9-mz.124-24.T5.bin”, la cual puedes descargar en esta página, para este caso se requiere DRAM mínima de 512MB, ver la Figura 2.

Además, podrás consultar las características y funcionalidades de la imagen seleccionada, muy útil pues al momento de armar las topologías tendremos conocimiento de cuáles son las limitaciones de las Imágenes, ver la Figura 3.
