Developed by network and systems engineers who know what it takes to manage today’s dynamic IT environments, SolarWinds has a deep connection to the IT community.
Graphical Network Simulator-3 (shortened to GNS3) is a network software emulator first released in 2008. It allows the combination of virtual and real devices, used to simulate complex networks.
Network simulators create models, while emulators mimic networks. Network engineers can't -- and shouldn't -- always work directly on the production network. To prepare for network changes, network engineers need to test how those changes can affect network function.
One of the main drawbacks of using GNS3 for STP simulation and testing is that it requires a lot of resources and setup. You need to have a powerful computer with enough RAM, CPU, and disk space to run the virtual devices smoothly. You also need to obtain the device images legally, and configure them properly in GNS3.
